Melbourne’s The Lui Bar, along with its sibling venues Vue De Monde, sits high on the 55th floor of the iconic Rialto Tower. As one of the city’s most revered fine-dining institutions, Vue De Monde & Lui Bar has been synonymous with luxury and sophistication since its original opening by Chef Shannon Bennett in 2000. Relocating to the Rialto in 2011, the restaurant’s elegant design has been continuously updated to reflect its innovative culinary vision.
Elenberg Fraser, the award-winning architecture firm behind the 2011 move, was entrusted with the latest renovation in 2023, and they brought Tsar Carpets on board to craft bespoke flooring for The Lui Bar.
The design brief called for a dark, moody aesthetic with an abstract interpretation of Australiana, aligning perfectly with The Lui Bar’s opulent and sleek ambiance. Tsar Carpets’ team worked closely with Elenberg Fraser, using the provided materiality package to ensure their custom designs complemented the furniture, materials, and color palette.
The result is a sophisticated, textured carpet that grounds the space in luxury while subtly nodding to Australia’s rich landscape. This project showcases Tsar Carpets’ ability to balance artistry and functionality, elevating The Lui Bar’s atmosphere to new heights.
